본 연구는 구체적으로 신문자료에 나타난 기부와 관련한 연관 검색어(관련어: related keyword, 혹은 공기어)의 변화 추이를 통해서 한국사회의 기부 특성과 의미의 변화 흐름을 살펴보려는 시도이다. ‘기부’ 키워드(주제어)의 추이뿐만 아니라 문단 내에서 그와 연관 관계를 이루는 관련어들의 추이를 함께 분석하였다. 단순히 키워드(주제어) 변화만을 보는 것보다 ‘연관 검색어’를 이용한 분석 방법은 변화 추이(트렌드)를 보는 데 우연성의 여지를 최소할 수 있는 방법론으로 보기 때문이다(LG경제연구원, 미디어다음, 2010). 이에 ‘기부’라는 특정 키워드의 연관 검색어(관련어)의 빈도를 시계열적으로 분석하여 기부에 대한 관심사의 변화 양상과 트렌드를 살펴보고자 하였다.
