The Center on Philanthropy at The Beautiful Foundation involves researchers from various fields—including social welfare, tax, accounting, law, sociology, business administration, economics, and public administration—to conduct “Featured Research” on various themes of Philanthropy. This research aims to improve social perceptions of giving, enhance the fundraising capabilities of nonprofit organizations, and produce effective policies. On December 4th and 5th, a two-day online event was held via ZOOM to share four major research projects.

Meeting the Center on Philanthropy in the U.S.

During the conference banquet and awards ceremony, where many Korean scholars were recognized, it was a joy to see The Beautiful Foundation logo. The Foundation participated as a sponsor for this year’s ARNOVA conference. Hae Jung KIM, the Assistant Director of the Center on Philanthropy at The Beautiful Foundation, delivered a greeting to the attendees. Seeing the foundation’s name represented among international scholars made the Korean participants feel very proud. This concludes my report from Indianapolis, and I hope to share more of the vibrant atmosphere in the future.

25 Years of International Network
|
|
For nonprofit foundations unfamiliar with international exchange, the story of the Center on Philanthropy at The Beautiful Foundation‘s global network offers useful hints. Since 2001, the Center has hosted the “Giving Korea” symposium as an international event to broaden the context of Korean philanthropy and create synergy by growing alongside other nations.
In 2006, the Center began attending ARNOVA (Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action), a world-renowned academic society. Networking with global institutions such as WINGS (Worldwide Initiatives for Grantmaker Support), IFC (International Fundraising Congress), and COF (Council of Foundations) followed, evolving into the current international network. Exchanging with overseas organizations provided a valuable opportunity to find answers to the limitations of domestic research and established a foundation for viewing Korean philanthropy through a lens connected to global civil society.
